Global Steel Holdings, the offshore investment outfit of the Pramod and Vinod Mittal-promoted Ispat group, has finally got possession of Newco Llamkos Steel LLK, almost two years after it acquired Kremikovtzi Corp, the winning bidder for Llamkos. |
Sources said Global Steel Holdings-promoted Kremikovtzi has elected a new board for Llamkos. They added an investment program that includes full maintenance with spare parts, automation of the line, speeding up of the process of galvanization and improvement of the work conditions were under process. The investment could be in the range of ¤20 million (Rs 100 crore). |

Kosovo, Serbia-based Llamkos primarily produces galvanised sheet. The plant also produces galvanises sheet consumer goods. Around 457 workers and employees work in the plant. |

Global Steel Holdings acquired Kremikovtzi in April 2005. But at the time of completion of the deal in August 2005, Global Steel found that the erstwhile owner of Kremikovtzi had signed a separate agreement to sell Llamkos to a third party. Kremikovtzi had won Llamkos from Kosovo Trust Agency prior to Global Steel Holding completing its acquisition. |

According to sources, Global Steel had to take legal recourse to take possession of Llamkos which has capacity of 130,000 tonne a year. The capacity utilisation stands at 60 per cent. Llamkos is fed with cold rolled coil from Kremikovtzi. |

Global Steel Holding which owns four plants in the territory of former Yugoslavia proposed to invest ¤ 350 million (Rs 1,900 crore) by 2011 to scale up the annual capacity from 1.3 million tonne to 2.2 million tonne by 2011. |

At present, Global Steel Holdings manages and operates around 14 million tonnes of production capacity across the world. |
