The Indian subsidiary of global automobile maker General Motors, General Motors India, is expanding its sales and service network in tier-III cities of Uttar Pradesh.

The company has 17 sales and service points in the state and plans to increase the number to 28 by the year-end.

“We are expanding into tier-III cities and smaller towns, such as Faizabad, Farrukhabad, Hathras and Mathura to reach more customers and grow by 10 per cent in the state, up from 7 per cent last year,” Ankush Arora, vice-president (marketing, sales and after sales), told Business Standard.

He also said that the company remained bullish on the potential of tier-III towns, since almost 68 per cent of its total sales had come from these centres in 2008.

In 2008, GM sold 2,500 units of its flagship small car Chevrolet Spark and about 75 units of its popular sports utility vehicle (SUV), Chevrolet Captiva, in the state.

The company is in the process of expanding its sales network points across the country from 188 to more than 225 by the year-end.

Arora was in town to launch Captiva Automatic, priced at Rs 20.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Lucknow) and Spark Muzic (Rs 3.27 lakh in the UP market.
