General Motors India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, on Friday announced expansion of production capacity of its Halol facility to 60,000 units per annum. The Gujarat-based plant of the company currently rolls out 25,000 units per annum.The expansion of capacity has been carried out to clear the backlog of Tavera, the newly launched MUV from the company's Chevrolet family. Sales of Tavera had crossed the 10,000-car milestone in Janury within seven months of its mid-2004 launch, and currently there is a seven month wait list for the vehicle. Aditya Vij, president and MD of GM India, said: "Our Halol plant is fully geared up to produce up to 80,000 units or more in three shifts if need be."
