Despite the sluggish market conditions, General Motors India has launched Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 compliant with BS IV in MUV segment priced at Rs 7.51 lakh ex-show room Delhi. The company will be manufacturing 25,000 vehicles per year from its Halol plant in Gujarat.
Also, it has plans to launch two more vehicles namely, Sail and an eight seater MPV. The Sail launch will come in June this year, while the MPV variant will be launched by the end of this year.
Commenting on this, P Balendran, vice president, GM India said, "There was cut in production due to sluggish market conditions. With this launch, we are in the process of building additional capacity of 25,000 at Halol plant in Gujarat. Due to increased interest rates, the demand has gone down. But if the interest rates decrease by June, I hope it will help to boost the sales. We have sold around 111,000 vehicles last year where as the combined capacity of the company at its two plants at Halol in Gujarat and Talegaon in Maharashtra is 225,000."
GM India president and managing director Lowell Paddocks said, "The new Tavera demonstrates GM India’s commitment to listening to our customers and continuously upgrading the products.”
Adding further, he said, “As a result of the feedback we received, the Chevrolet Tavera once again raises the bar in terms of features and personal amenities for its segment. It is a testament to GM’s resolve to continuously add value and excitement to our entire Chevrolet product lineup in India."
General Motors has already made an investment of over $1 billion in India together in Talegaon and Halol plants. At the Halol plant, the company has an annual capacity of 85,000 vehicles which is being raised to 1.10 lakh vehicles to manufacture the light commercial vehicles.
