The sales comprised 1,667 units of multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, 1,214 units of sedan and hatchback Chevrolet Aveo and Aveo U-VA, 383 units of the luxury sedan Chevrolet Optra, 2,250 units of its small car Chevrolet Spark and 275 units of Chevrolet Captiva, GM said in a statement.
"The industry has seen some growth primarily driven by new models, however, the overall market sentiment remains sluggish. The market is also worried because of the steady increase in inflation which has lead to a sudden surge in input costs for all manufacturers," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.
The fear of impending increase in fuel prices, rising interest rates and threat of the global recessionary trend are affecting the growth of the sector, he added.
The company plans to increase its sales outlets to 125 and service points to 135 by the end of this year across the country. It currently has 117 service stations, GM India said.
