General Motors (GM) India Limited has recorded sales of over 1000 used cars since the launch of its used car business in May 2009.

“The response that we have got to our used car business has surpassed our expectations. Over 1000 units of different passenger car models of General Motors have been sold since the roll out of the company's used car business”, P Balendran, vice president, GM India told Business Standard.

Presently, GM India has 30 Chevy Ok centres (used car outlets) in 24 cities across the country. GM India plans to open 40 more used car outlets throughout the country by the end of 2010 which will take our network of used car outlets to 70, Balendran said. The automaker forayed into the used car business to tap the growing market for this segment in the country. "India offers a huge market as far as pre-owned cars are concerned as for every model of passenger car sold in the country, two used cars are sold. The used car market in India is still largely unorganized and it needs to be tapped effectively", Balendran added.

GM India is offering a guarantee of six months on all its used car models. The pre-owned cars are subjected to a series of inspections at the company’s used car outlets.
