State-run minerals major, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (GMDC) has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) for setting up various mineral-based projects in Gujarat.

The mining major has also invited players to set up 5 projects of 100 megawatts each from the deep seated lignite deposits available in Gujarat.

"Pursuant to the investment intensions signed in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit earlier this year, these EOIs have been invited from the interested parties," said a top GMDC official.

The quantum of investment likely to be made through these projects could not be confirmed immediately.

The various mineral-based projects are aimed at using the mineral deposits such as lignite, limestone, silica sand and ball clay among others, which are currently available with GMDC.

Among the six projects for which the EOIs have been invited, include manufacturing of humic acid from lignite, silica sand beneficiation and manufacturing of glass, ball clay based industries and minor mineral associated with overburden based R & D projects.

The last date for submission of EOIs is April 15, 2013. The selection of the suitable parties for different projects would be done in two phases.

The first phase would consist of technical qualification and the second phase would involve final selection based on the parameters with weightages allocation.

The company will consider several factors such as technical competency, experience in mining, cement or glass manufacturing or similar field as well as participating company's financial strength and scale of investment among other details.
