The Adloor Yellareddy to Gundla Pochampalli highway project, executed by the Bangalore-based GMR group, has commenced commercial operations on March 26. This is the group's third highway project in Andhra Pradesh.

The 102-km stretch on Hyderabad-Nagpur national highway was executed on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis at a cost of Rs 700 crore. The concession period for the project is 20 years and it took two years to complete it.

GMR stated in a release on Wednesday that it had won this project through an international competitive bid from the National Highways Authority of India in October 2005. The scope of the project included improvement, operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, strengthening and widening of the existing two-lane road to four-lane.

GMR has already completed four-laning of the highways between Tuni and Anakapalli for a distance of 59 km and the 58-km stretch from Farukhnagar-Jadcherla in the state.
