GMR Infrastructure, a Bangalore-based Rs 1,000 crore firm with focus on development of airports, power and roads, is set for diversification. The company is exploring options of developing special economic zones or other export promotion parks for software, electronic hardware, biotechnology parks either on their own or through a joint venture.In addition to this, the company is set to provide financial assistance for various infrastructure projects through a host of financial instruments, via the private equity route.Among major projects that the company is currently undertaking are the Delhi Airport revamp and a greenfield international airport in Hyderabad. It is also part of an international consortium, that recently bagged a $550 million project to revamp an international airport in Turkey. The company plans to raise upto Rs 5,000 crore from overseas markets in the near future to finance all these projects.
