Godrej Agrovet eyeing 2-fold growth in oil palm plantation biz

Godrej Agrovet (GAVL), the agri- business arm of the Godrej group, is eyeing two-fold growth of its oil palm plantation business in the next 2-3 years, a top company official said.

"Currently, our turnover in the oil palm business is over Rs 100 crore. We are eyeing a two-fold growth in our sales in the coming 2-3 years," GAVL Executive Vice-President (Finance and Systems) S Varadaraj told PTI here.

However, he refused to divulge any further details.

The company has also tied-up with software solutions provider SAP to achieve operational efficiency through centralisation of data on its oil palm and plantation business.

Godrej Agrovet has developed 35,000 hectares of oil palm in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Mizoram.

"We are into the process of identifying more areas for plantation," Varadaraj said.

About the company's venture with SAP, Varadaraj said, "With the implementation of SAP, we are able to provide the entire chain with real-time data through SMS and e-mail alerts to the farmers, as well as the vendors," he said, adding that the company will benefit from more product yield.
