S Gopalakrishnan, one of the co-founders of Infosys Technologies, today took over as the chief executive officer of India's second largest IT services company. His appointment as CEO was approved by share holders at the 26th annual general meeting (AGM) of the company.He succeeds Nandan Nilekani, another co-founder, who has been elevated as co-chairman after completing five years at the helm of the affairs. The meeting also approved the appointment of another co-founder S D Shibulal as the company's COO.Infosys chairman and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy had a word of advice to the team. "These transitions reinforce the efficacy of our long term succession planning. Our future success depends upon our ability to manage rapid growth. We have the vital ingredients to manage growth -- strong leadership, talent, mature processes, integrated systems and infrastructure. These, along with our strong value system, will continue to accelerate our growth in the years to come," Murthy said in his address at the AGM.
