The government today filed an application in Supreme Court with regard to the Ambani gas dispute, saying it wishes to clarify that its prayer was not for declaring any private family agreement null and void.

Seeking permission to amend its special leave petition filed in July, the government asked the Supreme Court to set aside only the Bombay High Court judgement that relates to the interpretation of its gas utilisation policy and provisions of the Production Sharing Contract.

It further sought a direction that the policy and Production Sharing Contract would have supremacy and cannot be controlled by a private arrangement.

The government had in July filed a petition seeking the court to declare as null and void that part of the Ambani family MoU that provides for dividing natural gas from RIL's KG-D6 fields between Mukesh Ambani-run RIL and Anil Ambani-run RNRL.

The Supreme Court has fixed October 20 as the date for commencement of final hearing on the gas dispute.
