The government has ordered a comprehensive scrutiny of the books of accounts of Jet Airways under Section 209A of the Companies Act, 1956. The shareholding pattern of the company will also come under the probe.
The inspection has been ordered by the Department of Company Affairs to see whether the company has violated Sections 269/198/309 of the Companies Act also. While under a normal inspection, the government can scrutinise violation of pre-stated sections, Section 209A allows the DCA to go in for a comprehensive scrutiny.
Jet Airways said it has not been informed about the investigations ordered by DCA so far.

The action, initiated by DCA, is a fallout of the uproar created in Parliament by disinvestment minister Arun Shourie over the ownership of the private airline during the last Monsoon Sess- ion. This led to a parliamentary question seeking details of the shareholding pattern of the company.
Officials said the probe is based on a preliminary report filed by the registrar of companies (RoC) in Mumbai which found violations of the provisions of the Companies Act, top government officials told Business Standard. The department had instructed the RoC to obtain details about the company including its adherence to the relevant provisions of the Act.
It is learnt that during its preliminary investigations, the RoC had sought details of the
