State-run, Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (GSFC) will set up a new production unit of 'bio complex' for large scale production of liquid biofertilizers and amine (granules and liquid) at the company. State revenue minister Anandiben Patel laid foundation stone of the proposed complex Friday.

With the expanding horizon of science, GSFC envisages demand of time to achieve new peaks on the path of progress and step forward to manufacture 'liquid biofertilizers'. In this context GSFC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Anand Agricultural University for technology transfer of liquid biofertilizers, a company statement said on Friday.

GSFC, a leading manufacturer of quality products of chemical fertilizers and industrial products, is the first chemical fertilizer manufacturing company to introduce biological input like lignite based 'biofertilizers' in 1984. Subsequently in 2005–06, the company has launched plant protein based plant growth promoter 'Amin' (granules and liquid).

GSFC has introduced FCO-approved water soluble fertilisers based on its R&D process for use in drip and sprinkler irrigation systems and also as foliar spray to augment yield and improve quality of variety of crops like fruits, vegetables, oil seeds, pulses, cereals, cotton, tobacco sugarcane and tea.

To augment the expanding markets, a commercial plant of water soluble fertilizers is being set-up at the complex.
