The net additions is in line with the growth which is being witnessed in the last three months-GSM operators have added at an average 6 million subscribers every month between March to May.
There were also no surprises in the pecking order amongst telecom companies either. Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel maintained the its top rank with a market share of 32.71 per cent and a total user base of 69.38 million. The company added 2.55 million users in June 2008, up from 2.46 million added in the previous month.
Vodafone-Essar was in the number two slot adding about 1.73 million customers to its total subscriber base and maintained a market share of 23.19 per cent. The company's total subscriber base stood at 49.2 million during the end of the reporting month.
Meanwhile, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) however witnessed a decline in its total market share. The market share of the company fell from 18.01 per cent in May 2008 to 17.61 per cent in June, 2008. BSNL added 3.65 lakh users in June, taking its total to over 37 million. The reason: the company whose expansion plan got delayed due to controversy on the tender process for procurring new equipment has lead to restriction in the capacity of the network to take new subscribers.
While AV Birla-promoted Idea Cellular raked in a total of 1.05 million users during the month to report a total subscriber base of 27.19 million with a market share of 12.82 per cent .However, with Spice Telecom under its belt the combined market share would now be 14.96 per cent.
