Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) seems to be interested in availing technical expertise of GTZ (German Technical Co-operation) for transforming its existing industrial estates into eco industrial parks. The German entity will soon hold discussions with GIDC officials for the purpose.

GTZ provides technical co-operation within the framework of Indo-German Development Co-operation for creation of eco industrial parks.

"During an awareness programme in Gujarat last year, GIDC officials had shown interest for eco industrial parks in Gujarat and we are going to meet GIDC officials soon in this regard," Raghu Babu, senior programme specialist, ASEM, Indo-German Environment Programme said on the sidelines of a seminar on "Clean Technology: Need for Sustainable Development" in Ahmedabad.

"GTZ is already operating in Naroda industial estate and GIDC plans to give other existing estates to the German company for making them eco industrial parks," confirmed a GIDC official, who was present in the seminar organised by GIDC and Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC) along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Eco industrial parks envisages deployment of clean technologies for water purification, waste water/waste management. recycle/reuse and disaster management in industrial estates.

Apart from using technologies for reduced resource (raw materials, fuels, water and energy) consumption, eco parks sources power from renewable energy.
