Gujarat Ambuja has posted a net profit of Rs 337.76 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006, up 284%, when compared with Rs 87.90 crore reported for the quarter ended December 31, 2005.According to a release issued by the company to the BSE today, total income increased 79% to Rs 1369.36 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006 from Rs 765.56 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2005.For the 18 months, ended December 31, 2006, the company has posted a net profit of Rs 1503.25 crore. Total income stood at Rs 6381.95 crore for the same period.Further, the board have approved the company's name change to "Ambuja Cements" from the present "Gujarat Ambuja", subject to requisite approval.'The cement industry is doing exceedingly well while on the back of robust GDP growth and it is expected that cement demand will continue to grow over 10% over next few years', as per outlook released by the company.
