H&R Johnson (India), a division of Prism Cement Limited and the market leader in the tiles business in the country, is expanding the capacity of one of its two manufacturing units, Silica JV, in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 225 crore.
Post the expansion, the unit’s capacity will touch 9 million square metre (sqm), from the present 5.85 million sqm, taking the overall manufacturing capacity to 51 million sqm, Anoop Sreekumar, senior general manager (marketing) of H&T Johnson, told mediapersons here on Friday.
The full capacity utilisation of the AP unit will begin in the third quarter of the current financial year, he said.
The expansion of the Silica JV unit will also enable the company to start manufacturing large-format vitrified tiles, an alternative to marble slabs. The new products will be launched under the ‘Marbonite Slabs’ brand by next month.
Sreekumar said that the AP manufacturing facilities will play an increasing role in catering to the southern market.
