HCC bags Rs 843 crore Godavari order

Engineering construction major Hindustan Construction Co (HCC) has bagged a Rs 843-crore order for lifting water from Godavari river using a single pipeline to fill the tanks at Bhimghanpur, Ramappa, Salivagu, Nagaram, Dharmasagar and Ghanpur railway station in Andhra Pradesh.
 
HCC is executing this project in a joint venture with Kirloskar Brothers. HCC is the lead partner, with 85 per cent participation. Other bidders to the project were L&T, ECC and the Shrinivas Construction combine, besides Sinohydro from China.
 
The scope of the work involves design and construction of pump houses, supply and erection of pipeline (2.5 m. dia x 135 km long), supply and installation of pumps, motors, and allied electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical works on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on a lump sum turnkey contract basis. This also includes operation and maintenance of the project for 2 years after commissioning.
 
HCC has executed similar projects in the field of power, water, transportation, tunnelling works, environmental engineering and industrial construction such as the Farakka Barrage (the world's largest barrage), Kolkata Metro (India's first underground metro), the Mumbai-Pune Expressway (India's first 6 lane concrete pavement expressway), Double Curvature Arch Dam at Idukki, Ennore Breakwaters (one of the largest in Asia) and the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant (the largest in Asia).
