HCL Info net up 7 per cent

Robust growth in the computer systems business helped information technology solutions provider HCL Infosystems register a net profit of Rs 72.13 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2007, a 7 per cent increase from the Rs 67.07 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter last year.
 
The company reported an 11 per cent growth in consolidated revenues at Rs 3,130 crore, against Rs 2,824 crore in previous corresponding period.
 
Revenues from the computer systems business grew 36 per cent at Rs 764.6 crore against Rs 563.6 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
 
Telecommunications and office automation business brought in revenues of Rs 2365.7 crore as compared with Rs 2254.4 crore in the corresponding period last year.
 
Commenting on his company's quarterly performance, Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and CEO, said, "Our strong focus on system integration and digital lifestyle distribution businesses enabled us to deliver noteworthy results in our first quarter. Media and Entertainment emerged as a new thrust vertical within the System Integration business. The expansion in product portfolio as well as HCL Digilife chain of stores boosted our revenues from the digital lifestyle distribution business. HCL consolidated its training business, offering HCL training programmes through tie-ups with leading colleges and universities across the country."
 
The consolidated earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter was Rs 4.30 a share. The board of directors declared a quarterly interim dividend of Rs 2 a share (100 per cent on an equity share of par value of Rs 2 each).
 
"Our new strategy of system integration will have a very positive impact which will be seen in every quarter," Chowdhry said. "Our computer systems segment has seen its highest growth and we expect to see further growth in this segment."
 
"On the system integration front, minimum orders worth Rs 5 crore- Rs10 crore are already coming in, mainly from the telecommunications and e-governance areas, and we expect this to reach a range of Rs 50 crore to Rs 70 crore." he said.
 
"Last year we roped in revenues of about Rs 250 crore from this business and hope to double it by next year."
