The country's largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda Motors Ltd today reported sale of 1,18,286 units of motorcycles during September 2001 -- a growth of 37.2 per cent in sale over 86,214 units sold in September 2000. The September 2001 sales are also up by 9.1 per cent as compared with sales during August 2001 (1,08,369 units).
The company's cumulative sales for April-September 2001 have increased to 6,36,830 units, growing by 32.7 per cent over the corresponding period during 2000-2001. The cumulative sales of the company during April-September 2000 was 4,79,630 units. Hero Honda sells only motorcycles.
Closest competitor, Bajaj Auto Ltd said its motorcycles sales were up 20.6 per cent in September at 53,142 units. But total sales of two-wheeler (including motorcycles, geared scooters, ungeared scooters as well as step-throughs), during the month increased by 8.9 per cent to 95,876 units against 88,043 units sold in the same month last year.
