Himalaya Optical, a prominent brand in spectacles and lenses industry, has introduced the Zyoptix eye care product in the eastern region through its Himalaya Vision Care Centre (HVCC).

"Himalaya has introduced this treatment for the first time in eastern India," said S Binani, director-marketing, Himalaya Optical.

"The group has invested Rs 1.8 crore for this purpose with the expected pay back period being 4 years," he added.

Approved by United States of America-Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this would correct optical aberration and refractive correction at a cost of Rs 26,000, for both the eyes, marginally more than ordinary laser treatment.

The company has also firmed up plans to add another three outlets within the current financial year.

"We will add up 3 more standalone outlets of which 2 be in Kolkata. The investment would be in the tune of Rs 45 lakh," Binani said.

The company was expecting to register a growth of around 4-5 per cent in 2005-06.

"The company has been recording a growth rate of 4-5 per cent in the last three years. Similar growth would be maintained this year also," he added.

The company would continue to concentrate on east for the current moment as it contributes to around 60 per cent of the company's revenue, followed by northern and central India, contributing the remaining, noted Binani.

"The Rs 1,800 crore optical market is growing at a rate of 3-4 per cent with North India putting up a better show registering a growth rate of 7-8 per cent, followed by 5-6 per cent of the east," noted Binani.

The company presently has 27 outlets, with eight in Kolkata and six in Delhi.

The company has renowned international brands including Bausch & Lomb, (USA), Johnson & Johnson (USA), Kodak (USA), Essilor (France) as international trade patterns.
