Hind Zinc net up 250% to Rs 802 cr

Increased volumes and higher zinc prices saw Hindustan Zinc's net profits rising 250 per cent to Rs 802 crore for the quarter ended March 2006 compared with Rs 229 crore in the corresponding period last year.
 
Net sales for the country's only integrated zinc producer was up 142 per cent to Rs 1,774 crore from Rs 733 crore in the year-ago period.
 
For the full year ended March 2006, the company posted 123 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 1,472 crore from Rs 661 crore last year. Net sales was up 76 per cent to Rs 3,877 crore from Rs 2,202 crore.
 
With the company's new smelter at Chanderiya going on stream, the company's refined zinc production for the year was 2,84,000 tonne, 34 per cent higher over last year.
 
Lead produced during the year was 24,000 tonne, including 4,300 tonne from the recently commissioned Ausmelt plant.
 
"The newly commissioned Chanderiya smelter has ramped up well and contributed significantly to our volume growth during the year," said Chairman Agnivesh Agarwal.
