Hindustan Zinc (HZL), a part of the Vedanta Group, is planning three new projects with an expected capital expenditure of Rs 1,177 crore to consolidate its position in the metal production business as well as to foray into the emerging wind power generation business.According to a release issued by HZL to the BSE, the board of directors has given its go-ahead to set up a debottlenecking project, installation balancing equipment at mines and an additional 80MW captive power plant with a capital outlay of Rs 1,177 crore.The proposed debottlenecking project, which is aimed at increasing the metal production by 88,000 metric tonne (MT), and other projects are likely to be completed by early 2008."HZL is currently setting up wind power projects of up to 75MW in Gujarat and Karnataka at an estimated capital of Rs 400 crore. The projects are likely to be completed in phases during 2007 and 2008," the release added.
