S P Hinduja, chairman of Hinduja Group, has appealed the country's top business houses to create employment opportunities in the rural and semi-urban areas.
Speaking at the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) conference, Hinduja said: "Poverty is the root cause of terrorism and social unrest in our country. Unless the issue of poverty is solved, terrorism which is a result of economic disparities between the rich and the poor would continue to thrive and the way to avoid this was creating more employment."
According to Hinduja, narrowing of gap between rural-urban divide will help stop large scale migration of people in India from rural areas to cities and will expand consumer base.
