London-based Hinduja Group plans to build a 250-300 bed hospital with an investment of Rs 300 crore in Chennai similar to the PD Hinduja National Hospital in Mumbai.

At a function held here on Sunday to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee (60 years) celebrations of the group’s flagship company Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja brothers said the new hospital would also have a medical research unit and a college.

In this regard, the group plans to approach the Tamil Nadu government to seek land, which alone is estimated to cost Rs 80 crore.

Meanwhile, the group is also working on a new brand positioning exercise that will establish its group companies’ affiliation to the name Hinduja.

This is expected to be on the lines of the Tata Group initiative a few years ago to align all group companies to bear the Tata logo, which included name changes for companies like Tata Motors, which was until then Telco. This is likely to be completed in the next three months, according to company executives.

On plans to expand Ashok Leyland presence in the commercial vehicle market, group chairman SP Hinduja said the group aspired to be among the top five commercial vehicle makers in the world over the next decade.
