C K Birla Group flagship company Hindustan Motors, the makers of the Ambassador car, posted a net loss of Rs 25.28 crore for the quarter ended March 31, compared to a net profit of Rs 10.95 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year.
Net sales during the quarter dipped 31 per cent to Rs 127.94 crore from Rs 185.01 crore in Q4FY08.
The company's automobile division posted a loss before tax and interest of Rs 18.97 crore compared to a profit before tax and interest of Rs 25.66 crore.
Loss before tax and interest from other businesses including engineering and other services is Rs 2.94 crore during the same period.
Shares of the company were down 2.7% at Rs 16.40 a little before the closing bell on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
