Honda launches new scooter in 125 cc segment for Rs 58,156

With an eye on strengthening its leadership position in the Indian scooter market, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today launched, Activa 125 priced up to Rs 58,156 for (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new scooter under its flagship Activa brand is Honda's first 125 cc automatic scooter for India, HMSI said in a statement.

The Activa 125 will be available in two options, priced at Rs 52,447 for standard variant and Rs 58,156 for the deluxe variant (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).

"Propelled by new third plant near Bangalore, Honda is all set to excite customers with new products with speed. In this background, Activa 125 is Honda's next strategic step towards reinforcing its market leadership and facilitating Indians to step up their daily ride for more power," HMSI President and CEO Keita Muramatsu said in a statement.

According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), scooter sales posted a robust growth of 23.24% during FY14 at 36,02,744 units as compared to 29,23,424 units in 2012-13.

HMSI saw its scooter sales grow by 33,99% to 19,02,859 units, followed by Hero MotoCorp at 6,90,079 units, up 25.51%.

Muramatsu said: "The automatic scooter segment's contribution to overall 2-Wheeler sales in India has grown exponentially from 16% in 2009-10 to 24% today - indicating the growing demand in this segment."

Exuding confidence of doing well with the new scooter, HMSI Vice President - Sales & Marketing YS Guleria said: "Carrying forward the legacy of Activa, Honda aims to further expand its leadership in automatic scooter segment with the new Activa 125."

The company said the Activa 125 engine delivers a fuel economy of 59 kmpl.

The other scooters in HMSI's portfolio include, Activa, Aviator and Dio.
