Honda Motorcycle Scooters India (HMSI) today said it is developing a new motorcycle in the 100cc segment for India, which could hit the market within three years.HMSI's president and CEO Shinji Aoyama, who assumed office earlier this month, said the company's new 100cc model could be positioned slightly higher than the existing ones in the market and sport a premium price tag."We are not expecting big volumes from the bike. We cannot be the number one in the segment," he said.He said it would take about two years to develop the new bike and another year for commercial production and marketing.Asked if the company would require a second plant for the new bike, he replied in the negative and said it would be produced from its existing facility at Manesar. The company has already announced investments of Rs 400 crore for increasing Manesar plant capacity to 12 lakh units per annum from the existing 9 lakh units, as well as marketing initiatives and product development.Aoyama said the company would "probably" launch a new 125cc bike model to tap the young generation. The company is also looking at the possibility of introducing its popular high-end bikes in the domestic market that could cost a whopping Rs 10 lakh per unit as high-end bikes are levied 60% duty."We are presently studying the time-frame to launch high-end bikes like CBR 1000 and Gold Wing in India," Aoyama said.
