Car maker Honda Siel Cars India today reported a 43.76% decline in sales at 2,012 units in April, over the same month an year ago.
The company had sold 3,578 units in the corresponding month last year, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) said in a statement.
The April sales comprised 1,542 units of its flagship sedan City, 112 units of hatchback Jazz, 253 units of premium sedan Civic, 83 units of luxury sedan Accord and 22 units of its sports utility vehicle CR-V, it added.
HSCI said due to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March, the company has cut production at its Greater Noida plant to 50% from this month.
"However, production adjustments for a smooth transition began from mid-April. Further, to ensure continuity of supplies to our customers in the forthcoming months, we have moderated our wholesale despatches," HSCI Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) Jnaneswar Sen said.
He said the company is hopeful that supplies would normalise post July and "we would be able to catch up on the lost volumes".
