As former champion India take on New Zealand in the inaugural match of the T20 World Cup later this evening hoteliers are busy taking reservations on a variety of food and beverage combinations.

From unlimited starters and beverages to special menus, hotels have left no stone unturned to make the most of the cricketing event. Giant display screens accompanied by a cricketing ambience will welcome guests.

Food and beverage packages are priced in the range of Rs 999-3,000. Hotel Sahara Star in Mumbai is offering unlimited Budweiser beer or soft beverages with two vegetarian or non-vegetarian starters for Rs 1,800 per person, all inclusive, for the afternoon matches.

Late evening matches will have dinner buffets priced at Rs 3,000 per person, all inclusive, with unlimited Budweiser beer or soft beverages.

Hyatt Regency Mumbai is offering a beer bucket at Rs 999 and an unlimited snacks package (offer valid for a minimum of six people). And if you are cheering for India then you can buy one and get another free.

SP Jain, chairman, Pride Hotels, said, "For the T20 World Cup we are hosting a team in our Nagpur hotel. We have arranged for special menus and packages in every hotel. We will have big displays at every hotel where guests can enjoy the matches. Footfalls always increase when there are sporting events and we are expecting a huge response this time too."

At its Pune property Pride Hotels is offering unlimited beverages and starters while new menus have been lined up at its Ahmedabad property.

Stand-alone eateries and restaurant chains are also jumping on the bandwagon by offering such packages.

"Get the experience of a stadium as The Earth Plate restaurant will turn into a battleground with flags of competing teams adorning its walls," said a statement from Hotel Sahara Star.

Package rates for semi-finals and the final, which will be played on April 3 (Sunday), are expected to go up.

Warm-up matches and qualifiers ended on Sunday and group matches will begin today. The tournament has now been narrowed down to 10 teams from 16 after the end of the qualifiers.

India is placed in the same group as Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Defending champions Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, Afghanistan and England make up the other group.
