HP global rejig not to affect India

Hewlett Packard sees no setback to its India operations after the exit of its global CEO Carly Fiorina. According to Ravi Swaminathan, vice-president, personal systems group, Hewlett-Packard India, the company would continue to focus on India to spur its growth.
 
HP's global CEO Carly Fiorina stepped down last week as the 2002 merger with Compaq Computer Corporation failed to translate into tangible profits for company.
 
The market for portables in India was estimated at $ 223 billion and is slated to grow to $ 381 billion by 2007. Being the market leader in the portable market, HP has an addressable market size of $ 77.8 billion.
 
While the portable market grew twice its size in 2004, HP trebled its revenue in India during the same period, he said. Hewlett-Packard today announced its secure line-up of business notebooks.
 
The four different series of lightweight business notebooks and tablet PCs- the HP Compaq 8200, 6200, 6100 and 4200 in the price range of Rs 49,990 to over Rs 1.5 lakh.
 
Consumers will be offered flexible options to choose from a range of software and hardware, depending on the security levels. The notebooks also have HP mobile data protection system, which helps reduce the risk of data corruption by up to 50 per cent by protecting the hard drive, he added.
