In order to bolster its presence in the fast growing tablet category, Hewlett Packard India is readying a range of tablets to be launched over the next two months. According to the company, the tablets will cater to users across the spectrum and will start from the sub-Rs.20,000 category going up to the premium range.

HP currently has almost negligible presence in the tablet space with only one product aimed at the enterprises, currently retailing around the Rs.60,000 price range. While the company plans to time the launch around the upcoming festive season, which is one of the strongest sale periods for the industry, it did not divulge further details of the products such as the screen size.

Rajiv Srivastava, vice president and general manager of the personal systems group for HP India said that for the next one and a half to two years, tablets are expected to witness a very fast growth. “At the same time, the PC/notebook sales are shrinking… While tablets may be cannibalising some sales, they are complementing PC usage.” He added that the company may be late to the market which has already been dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung, HP is looking at catering to both the consumer and the enterprise segment.
