State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) will upgrade its lubricant making facility in Mumbai with an investment of Rs 400 crore in a bid to produce new range of lubricants and oil."We will modernise our existing facility of lubricants with the installation of new technology and the process is expected to complete by 2010," R Sudhakara Rao, general manager (lubricants), HPCL said.The second largest producer of lubricants in the country has proposed to produce group 2 base oil which will have antioxidants properties and it will also be euro IV compliant. "With the completion of modernisation of our plant, we will be able to produce group 2 base oil, high performance oil," he said.Presently, the company produces group 1 base oil, being used as gear oil, engine oil and spray oil for cars, tractors and industrial machinery.The company presently has production capacity of 3.5 lakh tonne of lubricated oil per annum.
