The Andhra Pradesh government is slated to provide the council with land and requisite infrastructure and has also announced financial assistance to the tune of Rs 3 crore. |
The pharmaceutical industry's export promotion activity was earlier part of the Chemexcil (Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council) which also deals with the export promotional activities of several commodities like dyes, castor oil, agarbattis, cosmetics and the products of chemical industry as well. |
The pharmaceutical industry had for long urged the central government for an export promotion council of its own, but the centre gave its nod only one-and-half-year ago. |
Since then there had been no consensus among the pharma bodies on where the council should be headquartered. |
Disclosing this to the media at the sidelines of the first national meet on pharmaceutical marketing in India here yesterday, Venkat Jasti, the president of Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association of India (BDMA) and managing director of the city-based Suven Life Sciences, said an ad hoc committee chaired by D B Modi, the chairman of J B Chemicals, would hold its first meet in the city to chalk out the future programmes and strategies. |
Jasti is the secretary-general of the committee comprising 12 members representing several industrial bodies like Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (Oppi), Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and BDMA. |
Jasti said the committee chaired by Modi was likely to seek about 10 acres of land and the required infrastructure in the upcoming Gachibowli area. |
An international convention centre and R&D infrastructure would also be established on the Pharmexcil campus, he added. |
