Hyundai Motor India (HMI) today reported a 42.3% increase in its domestic vehicle sales during December 2006 at 11,067 units as against 7,777 units in the corresponding month in 2005, despite a slump in sales of its newly launched sedan Verna and Accent, which together registered only 942 units in the month. In November 2005, the two models accounted for sales of 2,970 units. According to a statement release by HMI, the company clocked sales of 12,288 units in the overseas market in the month, up 50% compared to the corresponding month in 2005. The total sales (including exports), in December, stood at 23,355 units. The company sold 22,314 units in the A2 segment, which consists of hatchback Santro and Getz, 47 units in the A3 segment comprising Elantra, 34 units in A5 segment comprising the luxury sedan Sonata Embera and 18 units in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment.For the calendar year 2006, the company said its cumulative sales stood at 2,99,513 units, an increase of 18.5% over the previous calendar year. The company sold 1,86,174 units in the domestic market during calendar year 2006, up 17.4% compared to the previous year.
