Hyundai Motor India (HMIL), the country's second largest car manufacturer, today said its domestic sales jumped 19.3 per cent to 15,602 units in December last year compared with 13,078 units a year ago.
The company's cumulative sales (including exports) in December were up by 55.7 per cent to 38,402 units compared with 24,664 units in the same period last year, HMIL said in a statement here.
Its exports in the month nearly doubled to 22,800, the same stood at 11,586 units during the same month in 2007.
"A combination of factors like innovative schemes, established products and a large network is what has helped Hyundai in these difficult times," HMIL Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.
The company registered a 49.6 per cent growth for the calendar year ending December 2008 as compared with the year 2007. The cumulative sales for 2008 stood at 4,89,328 units, with the domestic markets accounting for 2,45,397 units, as against 2,00,421 units in 2008, up by 22.4 per cent.
It exported 2,43,931 units in 2008 as against 1,26,749 units in 2007, up by 92.5 per cent.
The auto maker sold 37,320 units of hatchbacks Santro, Getz Prime, i10 and i20, 1,078 units of sedans Accent and Verna, two units of Sonata Embera and two units of its SUV Tucson in December 2008.
