South Korean automobile major Hyundai Motors is exploring feasibility of launching hybrid vehicles in the Indian market. |
Area sales manager for Hyundai Motors, N Balaji told Business Standard, "We have the hybrid engine technology in South Korea and we are exploring the feasibility of such vehicles in Indian market. But we would need subsidies from the government to launch this technology in India." |
He also said that they have not launched CNG version cars so far in India as there are not many gas filling stations and hence may not be widely accepted by customers. |
He further said, "About 80 per cent of the cars in South Korea run on CNG as we have mastered the technology. We are studying the market for CNG vehicles in the country." |
He was in the city for the Hyundai Motors India's automobile roadshow, World of Wheels, which took place late last week. The company displayed nine cars " the entire range of Hyundai cars launched in India and two new cars specially brought from South Korea. |
The company is also expanding its dealership in Baroda and Jamnagar. The two cars that have been specially brought from South Korea, Ultra-Luxury sedan Azera and Sports Coupe Tuscani will however be not launched in India soon. |
"We are studying the market for these vehicles. If the response is positive, we will launch the vehicles but it will not be in this year," he said. He said that Gujarat is its fourth largest market after Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra so they are expanding their dealership in the state in Baroda and Jamnagar. |
Gujarat has 12 Hyundai dealerships and six dealer service centres while Ahmedabad has two dealers. |
He also said that they would be expanding their dealers from 157 at present to about 200 in the country before the end of the year. The road show will travel to 34 cities across the country. |
The event has been held in Baroda and may also be held in Surat. |
