Hyundai Motors India (HMIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, registered a decline of 17.7 per cent in total sales of 43,316 units in January as compared to 52,628 units in the same period last year.
The domestic sales grew marginally at 2.4 per cent in the month under review, selling 30,306 units as compared to 29,601 units.
After a rise in December, exports for January, 2011 dipped 43.5 per cent at 13,010 units from 23,027 units in the year-ago period.
The country's second-largest car maker is yet to respond on the poor exports and lower sales growth.
The A2 segment that includes Santro, i10 and i20 saw a sales of 39,343 units while the Accent and Verna in the A3 Segment grabbed a sale of 3,957 units.
The ‘Next Gen i10’ grew high on popularity, recording a sales of 16,694 units in the domestic market.
Sonata Transform in the premium sedan segment sold 11 units while the Santa Fe in the SUV (Special Utility Vehicle) segment made a sales of just five units.
HMIL Director (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said: "We expect the domestic market to continue to grow although the rate might come down to low double digit this year."
