Driven by exports, car maker Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) today said its passenger car sales rose by 28.2 per cent to 36,152 units in July, 2008, against 28,204 units in the same month last year.
However, in the domestic market car sales witnessed a marginal growth of 0.4 per cent at 15,066 units in July, against that of 15,003 units in the same month last year.
The exports for the month rose to 21,086 units, against 13,201 units units during the same month previous year, HMIL said in a statement.
HMIL sold 30,614 units of hatchbacks cars Santro, Getz and i10, 5,504 unit units of Accent and Verna, 28 units of Sonata Embera and five units of its SUV Tucson in July.
Commenting on the sales, HMIL Senior VP, Marketing and Sales Arvind Saxena, "It has been a challenging month for the entire industry with the combined effects of increase in interest rates, hike in fuel prices and inflationary pressures affecting market sentiments."
