The country's second-largest car- maker, Hyundai Motor India, today reported a marginal growth in total sales to 47,228 units in December, 2010.
The company also announced that annual sales crossed the six lakh units-mark for the first-time ever in 2010.
HMIL sold a total of 47,217 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, the company said in a statement.
Domestic sales during December were up 17.60 per cent at 26,168 units, as against 22,252 units in the same month a year ago, it said.
The company, which is the country's largest car exporter, witnessed a 15.64 per cent jump in overseas shipments to 21,060 units in December, 2010, from 24,965 units in December, 2009.
In the A2 segment (Santro, i10 and i20), the company sold 42,397 units, while in the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) sales stood at 4,708 units. In the A5 segment (Sonata Transform), HMIL sold 21 units during the month.
For the entire 2010 calendar year, HMIL registered a sales growth of 7.85 per cent, with 6,03,819 units finding buyers, as against 5,59,880 units in 2009.
Domestic sales were up 23.06 per cent in 2010, at 3,56,717 units, compared to 2,89,863 units in the previous year.
Exports, however, fell by 8.49 per cent to 2,47,102 units in 2010 from 2,70,017 units in 2009.
"The year 2010 has been positive for the industry and HMIL. For the first time since inception, HMIL clocked record cumulative sales of over 6,00,000 units," HMIL Director (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.
The company expects the market to continue to grow in 2011, although the rate of growth may come down, he said.
