Hyundai Motor India, which has re-affirmed its concentration on India with a second manufacturing facility in Chennai is now looking at offering variety in its present products by planning to launch CNG, diesel or LPG versions of its existing vehicles.

The company has also said that while the i20 will be launched in Europe by the end of the year, the car has no immediate plans to make an Indian debut since the current model is not suited to Indian roads and would have to be modified.

The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) version of the company's flagship car Santro has been launched in Delhi and is in the process of being launched across the country.

The latest car from the Hyundai stable, the i10, which is being positioned in the compact segment between the Santro and Getz has just made its world debut in India and the company is already working on a diesel variant of the same to be exported to Europe early next year.

However, Wang Sik Min, Executive Director, Marketing Sales, Hyundai Motor India said a diesel, LPG or CNG fuel option for i10 in India was not on the cards as of now. He also said that Hyundai has plans to launch the LPG version of the Santro and Getz next year.

For Hyundai Verna, the company's diesel product, engines have been sourced from Korea. From last year when the car was launched in India, the company has sourced around 2000 diesel engines per month and is expecting to source around 30,000 in all this year for the domestic market sales.

Speaking at the launch of the i10, Min said, "We are aiming to produce 2.3 lakh units of the car of which 1.2 lakh units will be sold in India. The rest 1.1 lakh units will be exported to 75 countries across the world," he said.

He added that Hyundai will commence i10 exports by the end of this year or early 2008. Hyundai Motors has a market share of over 18 per cent in India and is poised to grow to 20 per cent in the next calender year.

The car comes with an ex-showroom Ahmedabad price of Rs 3.39 lakh to Rs 4.74 lakh depending on the variant.
