The Sanjiv Sidhu-promoted i2 Technologies, is to redeploy about 250 of its employees largely of Indian origin from its facilities in the US to its headquarters in Bangalore within the next month and a half.

The company also plans to double its employee strength in India to over 1,500 by the end of the current fiscal, said Peter O'Connor, vice-president, South Asia.

Majority of the personnel to be recruited would be used for the research and development work which is being conducted out of its Bangalore facility.

The Dallas-based i2 Technologies specialises in supply chain management technology solutions and currently has a staff strength of approximately 700 posted at Bangalore who are largely engaged in the development work.

However, the company has decided to increase the level of its product development work to India.

"The technical skills necessary for developmental work are available in India and the quality of people is also of a very high calibre. This, accompanied by the competitive rates for such work, make a strong case to develop technology in India rather than in the US. At the same time some of our current employees posted overseas had a desire to return back to India and this fitted well with our plans," said O'Connor.

Explaining the reasons for the scaling up of personnel O'Connor said: "We now plan to market many of our products this side of the globe and so having people over here in India would decrease the time to market as well enhance the quality of work. Earlier many of our applications were marketed in North America and so it was imperative to have the application development done out of the US."

"With the changed scenario it makes better sense to operate more out of India while catering to the region out of the US," he said.

The company had earlier stated that it would be enhancing its Bangalore campus so as to be able to house 2,000 people. While earlier majority of the workforce in India was involved with its global product developmental requirements , the personnel would now be involved in other functions of business including marketing and sales.
