Ahmedabad-based IceCube has tied up with engineering design and construction services major Roberts & Schaefer for providing coal processing plants to power generation companies. The collaboration involves use of the latter's expertise in engineering design for manufacturing coal processing plants for clients in the power sector in India.
"Much of the coal that companies import are not of the quality required for power generation. For instance, the type of coal imported from Indonesia has lot of moisture content in it. These coal processing plants will provide our clients with a quality of coal that will help better power generation. For this, we have collaborated with Roberts & Schaefer who are a major player in this segment," said Chirag Mehta, chief executive officer of Ahmedabad-based IceCube.
While IceCube has invested a mere Rs two crore for the new business, each of these plants will be priced anywhere around Rs 100-200 crore. The company has already supplied two such plants while it is in talks with major power generation companies including Adani.
"A typical plant will carry a coal processing capacity of 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum. We have already supplied two such plants and are in talks for more orders," said Mehta.
Apart from coal processing plants, IceCube is also into engineering design services (EDS). The company, recently, began talks with educational institutions like Nirma University for initiating specialised training modules in EDS.
According to industry experts, EDS is a very recent business idea or concept and only a handful of students are aware about this. While in India we have qualified engineers, the passouts are oblivious to the international standards required in markets like the US and Europe.
