ICSI members may practise in Singapore, South Africa

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) expects its talks with UK-based Institute of Chartered Secretaries Administration (ICSA) to help its members practise in Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa in the next couple of days. The UK institute's guidelines are followed in these countries.
 
Addressing mediapersons at the 33rd national convention on 'Transforming for globalisation and breaking the barriers' organised by ICSI, R Ravi, president, ICSI, said, "We are already in talks with the UK-based ICSA to enable company secretaries to expand their work of operation to other countries where ICSA has its offices."
 
ICSI and ICSA already have a memorandum of understanding by which company secretaries in India can also work from the UK after clearing three papers. With the finalisation of the talks company secretaries operating in the UK can also operate in Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa after their membership is withdrawn from the UK. The ICSI has 20,000 members in India.
 
Company secretaries are the link between the board of directors and shareholders. The convention will concentrate on four technical sessions - modernisation of company law for global competitiveness, governance norms; global attuning, securities laws and capital market; global benchmarking and restructuring professional firms for GATs regime.
 
Komal Anand, secretary to the government of India, Ministry of Company Affairs, will be the guest of honour at the inaugural session on October 20. A C Muthiah, chairman, SPIC group will deliver the key note address. M Damodaran, chairman, SEBI will be the chief guest at the special session on October 21 and S Balasubramanian, chairman, Company Law Board, will be the guest of honour at the valedictory session on October 22.
 
Over 800 corporate directors, secretaries and other senior management executives in the corporate and financial services sector, practising professionals, legal and management disciplines will participate in the convention.
