The state’s nodal agency for land acquisition Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) has scrapped the land allotted to Lanco Solar Pvt Ltd for setting up of a solar power plant.

Idco has cited delay in implementation of the project as the reason for cancellation of land allotment.

Lanco Solar was given 249.41 acres land in 2009 at Baranga tehsil in Cuttack district to set up a 250 Mw fully integrated plant for manufacturing of crystalline silicon solar cells and modules.

But the company failed to utilise the land for four and a half years from the date of allotment, thereby breaching the terms of allotment, Idco said.

“It is clearly construed that your company has breached the terms of allotment and retained the land idle for years and is no more interested to utilize the alloted property for the purpose for which it was allotted. The company is also not serious to implement the project. In view of the above, the allotment measuring 249.41 acres in Ramdaspur village under Baranga tehsil made in your favour is hereby cancelled”, said a letter to Lanco Solar issued by Idco’s chief general manager.

Idco said the company violated clause 26 of the letter of allotment wherein it was required to implement the project within six months from the date of allotment of land.

Prior to this letter, Idco had issued a showcause notice to the developer in August 2013. Though Lanco Solar replied to the showcause, it was not found to be satisfactory.

The company also failed to submit the detail activities report of the project with definite timelines.
