IEEE, an association of global technical professionals, today said it will set up an office at Bangalore as it looks to expand its presence in Asia.

“A significant percentage of IEEE’s members reside in India, and we have an extremely active volunteer base in this region,” IEEE Executive Director E James Prendergast said in a statement. The association currently has 23,000 members in the country. The new office will enable IEEE to further support engineering and technical professionals in India through a variety of educational and certification programmes, it said.

The Indian office in Bangalore will be the fourth in Asia after Singapore, China and Japan. “Having a local presence will enable us to not only expand the various professional development opportunities we offer but also cultivate relationships with local government and industry,” Prendergast said.

The India office will enable IEEE to continue its outreach efforts to local representatives from academia, government and the industry and explore additional business opportunities in the region, the association said.

IEEE has around 400,000 members across the globe and works for advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
