Gas from Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL’s) D6 field has started lighting stoves in some Delhi kitchens. Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the sole supplier of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, today started drawing natural gas from the field in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin.

IGL is the first city gas distribution company in the country to draw a gas supply from the KG basin. It had earlier this month signed a gas sale and purchase agreement with RIL and a gas transportation agreement with Reliance Gas Transportation and Infrastructure Ltd (RGTIL). Under the agreement, 0.308 million metric standard cubic metres a day (mmscmd) of natural gas is being made available to IGL to meet the city’s growing demand. The quantity is expected to grow up to 0.5 mmscmd by the end of the current financial year. The KG Basin gas is being brought from Gadimoga near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh through a pipeline of RGTIL till Ankot in Gujarat.
