Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) has plans to boost student strength by close to 70 per cent in the next 3-4 years, but setting up a campus in Singapore is not on the cards right now, its Director Pankaj Chandra said.
"We are definitely expanding capacity. This year we have expanded dramatically in terms of student strength and post-graduate programmes. This year alone, we have added around 150 seats across a couple of programmes," Chandra told PTI here.
"Over the next 3-4 years, we will definitely go up to 1,500 students. Now we are about 900. It's almost 70 per cent (growth in terms of student strength)."
Speaking on the IIM-B's earlier plan to set up a campus in Singapore, he said, "I think is in the background as of now. The government wanted us to change the MoU. So, unless that happens, setting up of a campus in Singapore will not be possible."
Chandra further said that to set up a campus there, the island nation's government needs an NoC and "some other things" from India, especially if one is a government entity.
"Now, to do that, you need to get it from the government. The MoU between the Society (owners of IIMs) and the government says any such move requires their (government's) clearance."
"To be fair to the government, we have not changed the MoA (memorandum of association). Unless we submit it to them, we cannot expect them (Union government) to react. Unless the MoA changes, I think we will not be able to start the campus in Singapore."
