Imax Corporation is looking at coming up with a total of nine Imax theatres In India by end 2010.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the first Imax theatre in Kolkata, John M. Schreiner, vice president of Imax, said, "We will be coming up with a total of nine theatres by the end of 2010 from four Imax theatres in the country now."
It will come up with two theatres in Chennai and Bangalore and one in Gurgaon by end-2010. The approximate investment for the Kolkata theatre was Rs 18 crore, excluding real estate cost. Tickets will be priced at Rs 200 keeping in mind the city market, said Jim Patterson, director of entertainment, Aeron R Enterprises. Imax could venture into movie production in India, after attaining a critical mass of about 10 screens, added Schreiner. The company could look at entering into strategic partnerships with banks and brands on a revenue sharing basis for cost benefits.
